ARTICLE: Nintendo October Direct + Indie World December Showcase Recap

Look out for these Nintendo Switch games coming soon!

Well, this is slightly late, but it’s better than never! This marks the last of Nintendo Showcases for 2020 and I’m sure there’s at least one game that will be interesting to someone. Well, here is the recap for both October and December Directs! All games available now will be listed first.

  • Immortals Fenyx Rising
    Available now, you’ll be playing a new demigod named Fenyx as she’s the last hope to save the Greek Gods and the world. You’ll be exploring a world filled with mythical beasts, use your skills and weapons to defeat your enemies, and puzzles scattered around will grant you abilities to help you on your journey.
  • Bakugan: Champions of Vestoroia
    Available now, anyone that is a fan of the Bakugan show has a new game to jump into that sets to expand on what has been shown on the show. Players will go on a journey, befriending Bakugan, gearing Bakugan up and setting your team, and become a champion.
  • Tropico 6
    Available now, you’ll be able to prove yourself on the go as a feared dictator or a peace-loving statesman as you shape Tropico through four eras. The Switch edition includes an exclusive palace design and a tourist costume for El Presidente.
  • Control Ultimate Edition (Cloud version)
    Available now, you’ll be able to play Control on the Switch and stop a corrupted presence that has decided to invade the Federal Bureau. Though, it’s important to note that the free download is meant to do a quick test before you’re asked to pay for an Access Pass. And there is a user cap.
  • No More Heroes 1+2
    With the impeding release of No More Heroes 3, those that never had the chance to play the first two games will now be able to! And it’s available now. Though, you might want to also pick up Travis Strikes Again while you’re at it.
  • Part Time UFO
    As a UFO, you’re mission is to help people with your trusty claw. You’ll go from stacking various objects and even using your claw to fish. This also includes co-op to perform jobs together, a mode to explore ruins, and another mode that challenges you to stack as many things as possible. This is available now.
  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
    Available now, you’ll be able to going back 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild to learn more about what happened, the characters, and fight hordes of enemies through various characters you can take control of. There’s a demo available if you’re not too sure about picking it up.
  • Calico
    Hopefully, you have more room for another community sim as Calico puts you to the task of rebuilding the town’s local cat cafe. This is available now.
  • Super Meat Boy Forever
    Available now, you’ll be able to (auto)run you’re way through over 7,000 (procedurally-generated) levels to save your daughter. Though, be sure you’re going into this expecting a hard challenge.
  • Grindstone
    Available now, you’ll be tested through various levels where you’ll puzzle your way to smash creeps to get huge combos, earn grindstones to cash in for new gear, and conquer Grindstone Mountain.
  • When The Past Was Around
    Get into the story of Eda in this point and click puzzle adventure where she remembers her days with her lover, The Owl. This is available now.
  • Among Us
    With Among Us suddenly skyrocketing in players this year, Innersloth has released it for the Switch, which is available now. If you somehow don’t know already, this is a party game where up to 10 players are put on a map and will either be tasked with completing tasks and staying alive as a crewmate or sabotaging and killing crewmates as the imposter without being found out.
  • Cyber Shadow
    After a desperate plea for help after a world gets taken over by synthetic lifeforms, you set out as Shadow to slash through those hordes and find out what started it all. If you do pick this up for the Switch, Shovel Knight amiibos will scan in a little helper. You’ll be able to play this on January 26, 2021.
  • Bravely Default 2
    We got a look into Bravely Default 2 and meet some Asterisk Holders and their jobs as to why you might want to put them into your team. Vanguards acts as tanks as they have enough defense and provoking moves to protect their teammates and can hit the enemy hard; Bards can use their music to do a party-wide buff or debuff all your enemies; Beastmasters can capture monsters and summon them to fight alongside your team; and finally Gamblers is all about Luck as it seems their skills will bring up a wheel that will spin, determining what happens.
    Bravely Default 2, while having a name suggesting a direct sequel, is a new and unrelated story set on a continent named Excillant. It follows four new heroes, a sailor named Seth, Elvis the traveling scholar, Adelle the mercenary for hire, and Gloria who is a princess of a fallen kingdom, where their adventure will take them all around Excillant to meet various characters. Bravely Default 2 will release on February 26, 2021, but you can play the updated demo now.
  • Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town
    After years of dreaming about living at Olive Town, you finally get the chance to after deciding to take over your Grandfather’s farm. Of course, once you arrive you’re not met with a flourishing farm, but one that has been neglected. So it’s up to you to clear the farm, discover flora, fauna, and even rundown facilities, tame livestock, discover hidden places, and most important of all bring your farm to your own personal standards. Apart from farming, you’ll be able to socialize the locals of Olive Town and maybe get to marry your love. You’ll be able to pick this one up on March 23, 2021.
  • Tunche
    A hand-drawn beat em up and slash game with hints of roguelike elements, you’ll be choosing one of five heroes (which includes Hat Kid) so you can unravel the secrets of the Amazonian jungle. This will be arriving in March 2021.
  • Kosmokrats
    After growing bored of Earth, you decide to join the Space Force as an elite drone pilot. You’ll be learning how to assemble spaceships in orbit, drink vodka, shape your narrative, and earn medals. This will be available in March 2021.
  • Hazel Sky
    Be put into the shoes of a young engineer as he tries to fix ramshackled flying machines and make your way through trials or be faced with banishment. This will become available in March 2021.
  • Hoa
    In April 2021, you’ll be able to jump into this puzzle platformer featuring beautiful hand-painted art, a relaxing atmosphere, and subtle storytelling as Hoa finds her way back to where it all began.
  • Fisti-Fluffs
    This is an action physics-based brawler where cats will fight it out to determine the best fighter. You’ll be able to pounce on this in early 2021.
  • Very Very Valet
    I hope you’re good at driving as you’ll become a valet driver in this party game. You’ll be picking up, parking, and returning cars in over 20 locations. This will be arriving early 2021.
  • GNOSIA
    As a mysterious Gnosia has blended in with your crew, it’s up to you to figure out who it is. Taking around 5-15 minutes per playthrough (or time loop), you’ll be able to play against a maximum of 14 NPCs. You’ll be able to unravel the mysteries in Early 2021.
  • Surviving the Aftermath
    If you’ve been looking for a post-apocalyptic game to play on the go, this might be the one for you. Coming sometime in Spring 2021, you’ll be tasked with trying to survive and thrive in a post-apocalyptic future. Resources are scarce and the threat of disasters loom over you, but hopefully that won’t stop you from trying to build up a colony and keeping your fellow colonists safe.
  • Alba: A Wildlife Adventure
    You’ll be put in the shoes of Alba as she explores wildlife and tries to save her island and recruit others to help. This will be releasing on the Switch sometime in Spring 2021.
  • Happy Game
    Well, this sure is a creepy one. You’ll be playing as a little boy who falls asleep and wakes up in a place that is filled with smiles, but is anything but happy. You’ll be able to smile through the Happy Game in Spring 2021.
  • Trash Sailors
    You, and perhaps some of your friends, will finally be able to become the greatest, trashiest sailing team. With trash floating around you, you’ll be able to use it to stay afloat and defend yourself against those that want you guys to sink. You’ll be able to set sail in Spring 2021.
  • Finding Paradise
    A sequel to To The Moon, you’ll be following the life of a new patient named Colin to try and unravel their life and fulfill a wish. You can pick this up in Spring 2021.
  • Griftlands
    This is a deck-building roguelike where you not only will be collecting cards to aid in negotiation and fights that you will find yourself in. This will be available sometime in Summer 2021.
  • Hitman 3 (Cloud version)
    Hitman 3 will be coming to the Switch as you’ll be able to play through the conclusion of the trilogy on the go. You’ll be returning as Agent 47 as he embarks on an intimate journey of hope and darkness.
  • No More Heroes 3
    While we now know NMH3 has been pushed back to 2021, we got a look into how the game looks while in action as well as the story. In 2019 we got a trailer showing us that NMH is indeed returning (which I recommend watching) and this trailer solidifies that we’ll be fighting against powerful aliens calling themselves heroes. And that Badman, Shinobu, and perhaps Sylvia will be returning.
  • Spelunky 1+2
    Both Spelunky games are heading to the Switch sometime in 2021. Both are randomly generated roguelikes where you’ll be journeying down deep underground and defeating monsters, navigating around traps, and collecting treasure. Though, in Spelunky 2, you’ll be doing it on the Moon.
